As always our Belles were busy, busy, busy this past summer .  Check out some of the exciting and enriching things they were up to:

She did some volunteer work at the Junior Blind Center doing data entry.  She also volunteered at the St. Joseph’s Center in Venice as a social work intern helping feed the needy and also helping out in child care.  She went on 2 college tours, EST BLACK COLLEGE TOUR, where she visited Bennett, Clark Atlanta, Howard, Spelman, Norfolk, Hampton & North Carolina AT&T, and also visited a few landmarks.  Her second college tour was in northern California with the UCLA Richard Riordan Business Program to UC Berkeley and Stanford  were she also got to tour Google & Survey Monkey.  Wow, what a jam packed summer!

Jessica Laar, Gold Tie ’18

Jessica worked a six week paid internship at Kaiser Permanente  in West Los Angeles, CA. The program is called Kaiser Permanente L.A.U.N.C.H. High School Summer Youth Employment Program.  L.A.U.N.C.H. is short for for Learn About Unlimited New Careers in Healthcare.

Jessica also participated in the C.S.J. Leadership Conference at Mt. St. Mary’s University, Doheny Campus in Los Angeles, CA in June.

Kristin Tatum, Gold Tie ’18

Kristin attended the Economics for Leaders camp in New Haven Connecticut at Yale University. The program was focused on economics and leadership skills. Each day she had morning classes that focused on economics where she learned different aspects of economics, such as the stock market, and participated in different activities pertaining to economics. In the afternoon, she participated in various activities in smaller groups to help develop leadership skills. These activities ranged from playing a silent game in which the entire group had to strategically run towards the middle to individually following a string tied to a group of trees while being blindfolded.  What a fantastic opportunity, Kristin!

She wants to be a photographer or photojournalist. She also volunteered at a daycare as well. Great job, Asiah!

Angelica Taylor, Blue Tie ’20

Victoria Miranda, Red Tie ’19

Giselle Melendez, Gold Tie ’18, Victoria Miranda, Red Tie ’19, and Angelica Taylor, Blue Tie ’20, played soccer in Spain!  During the regular season, Coach Armando, asked the girls if they were interested in going to Spain and playing a tournament with his club team.   They spent six months practicing and doing as many fundraisers as possible to make it happen . They were in Spain for ten days and did many tours.  They played against girls all from over the world. Their team won 3rd place overall and 1st place in the consolation bracket.   It’s an experience they’ll never forget.

Ashley Ochoa, Green Tie ’21

Ashley’s summer job was as a volunteer at a summer camp for six weeks.  She was a first time counselor and enjoyed being with the kids. She worked with the youngest group of 5-7 year olds.  She loved meeting new people and creating friendships with the other counselors.  Looks like it was tons of fun!

Kenya Mayers, Gold Tie ’18

Kenya took a trip to Boston to visit some colleges in the area including Harvard.  Looks like she’ll fit right in at Harvard.  We’re so proud of all our of Belles and this is just a small sample of what did over the summer.  Keep up the great work Belles!  We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next.
